OLYMPUS POWERSEAL™ – The next-generation vessel sealer for modern surgery

28/05/2026

In surgical practice, effective vascular control is a critical factor influencing clinical outcomes. However, conventional energy devices often present surgeons with a challenge: achieving reliable vessel sealing while minimizing damage to healthy tissue, without compromising procedural speed and precision. Developed to address these demands, the Olympus PowerSeal™ vessel sealer delivers three key advantages simultaneously: superior vessel sealing performance, an ergonomically optimized design for clinical use, and capabilities that extend beyond those of traditional electrosurgical instruments.

PowerSeal™ Delivers Consistent Energy for Precise Vessel Sealing

More Powerful Vessel Sealing Performance Than Ever Before

PowerSeal™ is built on advanced bipolar vessel sealing technology, utilizing concentrated radiofrequency energy between two electrodes to generate localized thermal effects. This process denatures collagen within the vessel wall, creating a durable seal and providing effective hemostasis. Internal Olympus testing has demonstrated:

  • Reliable sealing of vessels up to 7 mm in diameter, including pulmonary vessels, tissue bundles, and lymphatic structures
  • High sealing security, with more than 99% of vessel seals withstanding burst pressures exceeding 360 mmHg
  • Fast sealing times, averaging 2.8–3.3 seconds
  • Thermal spread comparable to other advanced bipolar vessel sealing devices (approximately 1.29 mm), helping protect surrounding healthy tissue
  • Reduced tissue sticking through a proprietary energy waveform and unique jaw design exclusive to the PowerSeal™ bipolar vessel sealer

Intelligent Ergonomic Design: A Natural Fit in the Surgeon’s Hand

Designed to maximize surgeon comfort, particularly during lengthy procedures, PowerSeal™ incorporates several notable ergonomic improvements compared with many devices currently available on the market:

  • 55% less squeeze force required to close the jaws
  • Optimized reach between the handgrip and device controls
  • 10% less squeeze force required to activate the cutting mechanism
  • An optional Latch-on feature that maintains secure tissue grasping during traction, dissection, or vessel sealing, reducing hand fatigue
The ergonomic design of PowerSeal™ enhances comfort and procedural control.

A Three-Step Workflow for Enhanced Energy Control and Safety

One of the most innovative features of the PowerSeal™ vessel sealer is its redesigned three-step workflow, separating tissue grasping, energy activation, and cutting into distinct actions. This approach allows surgeons to assess jaw compression and confirm the surgical target before energy delivery.

Step 1: Close and Lock the Jaws

Squeeze the jaw-locking trigger to grasp tissue. At this stage, tactile feedback from the handle confirms adequate jaw compression while allowing the surgeon to verify positioning before energy activation.

Step 2: Activate Energy

Press the energy activation button to deliver energy. The large wraparound activation button enables intuitive and convenient access during surgery.

Step 3: Transect Tissue

Squeeze the cutting trigger to activate the blade and complete tissue transection.

The PowerSeal™ three-step workflow provides greater control over vessel sealing and tissue transection.

Versatile Design in a Single Vessel Sealer

Developed to support a wide range of surgical techniques, PowerSeal™ offers more than powerful vessel sealing performance. Additional features include:

  • A true curved Maryland jaw design with a tapered profile and dual-motion mechanism, optimized for grasping and dissection
  • The ability to activate energy without fully closing the jaws, enabling spot coagulation and flexible management of thicker tissues
  • Robust jaw construction that supports effective tissue grasping and dissection
Versatile jaw design supports precise grasping and tissue dissection.

The PowerSeal™ Product Portfolio

The PowerSeal™ vessel sealing portfolio includes three jaw configurations, each available in three shaft lengths to accommodate surgeon preferences and procedural requirements for dissection, grasping, and vessel sealing.

These devices are designed to meet the highest standards of clinical performance for advanced bipolar surgical energy instruments, consistently delivering safe and efficient vessel sealing.

CJDA: Curved Maryland jaw design for effective and symmetrical dissection. CJSA: Fixed lower jaw configuration optimized for horizontal-plane dissection. SJDA: Straight dual-motion jaw design intended for blunt dissection and tissue grasping.
